On this Christmas Season we remark on the fourth stanza of the carol that begins with – Of her, Emmanuel, the Christ, was born. It conveys the several messages where is the mystery of Christ’s embodiment through the Virgin Mary is a chief. At the same time this Carol will charm you with its fascinated tune on your hearing.
Here it is some enjoyable news, they are listed as follows. First of all, Mary was highly favored with the divine child. Secondly, according to the Gospel of Matthew the name Jesus was given to the new born child by God through the spiritual mediator; the name means the “Savior of his people;” on the other hand, the new born child obtained other prophetic name – “Immanuel” – that is “God with us” predicted by the prophet Isaiah around 700 years B.C. Third, the shepherds on the field whom the Angel announced the birth of the Savior (Lk 2:8-14) stand for all human race, and particularly, for Christian folk whom the good news have been announced and they believed. Next, the miraculous birth of God’s Son by the virgin from Nazareth made her the most famous woman in the world throughout all ages. No doubt, in moral sense she was the best virgin among all young women in Israel and in the entire world as well. Another reality we’ve learned from the stanza is that the birth of Jesus Christ took its place before dawn, probably at the same hour of Christ’s resurrection happened several decades after. And finally, we conclude that Mary’s achievements as the mother of God and a disciple of Jesus Christ cause Christian folk throughout the world to call her blessed, yet, with mutual concern of her as the “Most highly favored lady.”
The fourth stanza of the “Gabriel’s Message” narrates the nativity of the Son of the Almighty, who is the “Savior of his people” and “God with us.” He was born in the city of David, it came to pass on the very last day, we call it Advent, – the season of waiting and watching for the Messiah. Before the land saw the dawn of the bright morning, the girl named Mary, engaged to be married, yet unmarried, had given a birth to our Savior. Glory to our Lord! Glory to you!
* “And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an Angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (Luk 2:8-14).
Today we pondering of Christ’s birthday that was anticipated for a thousand years and after it has been celebrated for two thousand more and everywhere else. When dawn replaced the night all things were done. The economy of human salvation took its root. Christ, the King of kings, came to this world in human form to join us in our lowly state; but our great hope and the unending joy of this unmatched event point toward the joining us with Christ’s glorious state on the Day of Atonement. God in Christ Jesus came into our lives and dwelt among us so that the mortal flesh receive its chance to become immortal; for God in Christ Jesus does not hold back his love but despite our unworthiness he died in the cross for all, (2Cor.5:15). For this reason all people are favored with great opportunity to become bodily like he is, (1Jon 3:2). In contrast to all people, God blessed the believers in Christ with the exceeding blessing giving them the Holy Spirit, the power, wisdom and grace by which a man obtains unity with Christ even at this present age. These blessings are all grace we have known and experienced. From this point we are also highly favored. But at all events, Mary the mother of our God is the most highly favored lady among all women in the house of the Lord for she is not only the recipient of God’s grace as we are, but she is the greatest giver also, – she gave birth to our Savior Jesus Christ, God and Man who saves us!!! That is a reason why Christian folk throughout the world will ever say — “Most highly favored lady, Gloria!”
Finally, we comment on the source of all goodness that is God Himself; He brought to life the remarkable story about the remarkable young woman and even more remarkable incarnation of His Son, for “The Father loves the Son and has put everything in his hands,” (Joh 3:35) so that we may walk in the light of truth obeying the Son and being highly favored in this life we also may be favored in life eternal. Glory to our great God, Glory to You!
Now to the King of the Ages, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
