Of her, Emmanuel …

Of her, Emmanuel, the Christ, was born
in Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn,
and Christian folk throughout the world will ever say–
“Most highly favored lady,” Gloria!

On this Christmas Season we remark on the fourth stanza of the Christmas carol that begins with – “The angel Gabriel from heaven came… ”. It conveys the several messages where is the mystery of Christ’s embodiment through the Virgin Mary is a chief among others. At the same time this Carol will charm you with its fascinated tune on your hearing.

Here it is some enjoyable news found in the stanza, they are listed as follows. First, it says that Mary was highly favored with the child. Next, according to Matthew the name Jesus was given to the child by God through a mediator, in Hebrew this name means “Savior of his people.” Other proper name or title for Jesus Christ was given through the prophet Isaiah – “Immanuel”- “God with us” because he was God as well as man, and dwelt among the sons of men.Secondly, the shepherds on the field whom the angel announced the birth of the Savior, (Lk 2:8-14) stands for all human race, and particularly for Christian folk whom the good news is given. The next learn of stanza told us that the miraculous birth of God’s Son made Mary the most famous person in the world throughout all ages. No doubt, in moral sense she was the best virgin among all virgins in Israel particularly and in the entire world generally. Another reality is that the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ took its place before dawn, probably at the same hour of Christ’s resurrection. And finally it is a fact that Mary’s obedience and her reverence to God fascinate the Christian community around the world to call her blessed, yet the “Most highly favored lady.”

The fourth stanza of the “Gabriel’s Message” narrates the nativity of the Son of the Almighty, titled the “Savior of his people” and “God with us.” The nativity took place in the city of David. It came to pass on the very last day we call it Advent, the season of waiting and watching for the Messiah. Just before the land saw the dawn of the bright morning, the girl by the name of Mary, engaged to be married, yet unmarried, had given a birth to the Savior.

* “And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an Angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (Luk 2:8-14).

Today we are pondering of Christ’s birthday that was anticipated for a thousand years and after it has been celebrated for two thousand more and everywhere else. When dawn blocked the night the economy of human salvation was planted. Christ, the King of kings, came to this world in human form to join us in our lowly state; yet, our great hope and the unending joy is magnified with the Good News – that Christ has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again has won for us eternal salvation. God in Christ Jesus came into our lives and dwelt among us so that the immortal flesh would receive his immortality; for God would not hold back his love but despite our unworthiness, Christ died for all, (2Cor.5:15). That is why all people are favored with great opportunity to become bodily like he is. Moreover, God blessed the believers in Christ with the exceeding blessing giving them the Holy Spirit, the power and grace by means which a man becomes the child of God, even at this present age. These blessings are all grace we have known and experienced. From this point we are also highly favored; could you imagine? At all events, Mary the mother of our God is most highly favored person in the house of the Lord for she is not only the recipient of God’s grace as we are, but the greatest giver also, – she gave birth to our Savior Jesus Christ!!! That is a reason why Christian folk throughout the world will ever say– “Most highly favored lady, Gloria!”

Finally, we comment on the source of all goodness that is God Himself; He brought to life the remarkable story about the remarkable young woman and even more remarkable incarnation of His Son, for “The Father loves the Son and has put everything in his hands,” (Joh 3:35). Therefore, let us walk in the light of truth and obey the Son so that being highly favored in this life we may be favored in life eternal also.

Now to the King of the Ages, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever.

Amen.
